The Hank & Arlene Wintczak Memorial Internships

The Fox Valley Concert Band is pleased to announce the Hank & Arlene Wintczak Memorial Internships in memory of FVCB founding members and section leaders, Hank & Arlene Wintczak.

Details:
  • Up to six internships will be made of up to $400 each year (2 for each period: summer, fall, and spring).

  • Internships are to be used only for private tuition or summer music camp.

  • Winners will rehearse and perform with the Fox Valley Concert Band for up to 16 weeks.  They may also be required to fulfill other minor administrative roles with the band.

  • Winners may be included as featured soloists on concerts.

  • Awards are renewable.

  • Eligibility criteria must be met to receive the award.

  • Applicants must have the consent of high school teacher, parent, and private teacher to apply.

  • Award periods will be September through December, January through May, and May through August.

Eligibility:
  • Preferred applicant is a high school sophomore or junior to apply for the following season and must be a junior or senior in high school during the award period (we may consider mature younger students).

  • Preferred applicant will be participating in a high school music program in Illinois. (We may consider a mature student in junior high).

  • Applicant must have a high level of musicianship and musical maturity.

  • Applicant must be able to attend all rehearsals and performances if awarded an internship.

  • Applicant must audition on the date announced.

Auditions:
  • Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at Geneva High School.

  • Approximately 10 minutes in length and will include this year’s ILMEA materials. The scale sheets can be downloaded here. (6.9 MB pdf file). Please bring a copy for the appropriate instrument. You may bring other prepared materials with you to play.

  • Will be administered by the Music Director of the Fox Valley Concert Band, Dr. Colin Holman.

  • Require the applicant to attend the rehearsal on January 10, 2017.

  • Application fee of $15.00 must be received by Tuesday, January 3, 2017 to reserve your audition time.

About the Fox Valley Concert Band:

Rehearsal Schedule:

Fox Valley Concert Band rehearsals are held on Tuesday evenings from 7:30 to 9:30 in the Geneva High School band room beginning January 10, 2017 and end approximately May 15, 2017 for the Spring semester.

  • Sunday, May 7, 2017 at 3:00 pm, Norris Cultural Arts Center in St. Charles
  • Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at 7:30 pm, Windsor Park in Wheaton

Please do NOT apply for this internship if you know there are conflicts (e.g., school concerts, family vacations) with these dates in the concert season(s) for which you indicate you are available.  By signing your application, your school music director and parent/guardian acknowledge that they do not know of any such conflicts.

The Hank & Arlene Wintczak Memorial Internships are awarded solely on the basis of the applicants’ demonstrated musical abilities and availability.  No consideration is given to any other factor, such as an applicant’s sex, race, national origin, religion, disabilities, or economic circumstances.  An applicant’s age is only relevant insofar as the internship awards are limited to specific high school class levels.
